The 4 C's of diamond quality

Every diamond is unique, but its quality is assessed globally based on four key criteria: the 4 C's – Carat, Color, Clarity, and Cut . At Vondel Diamonds, we select only diamonds that excel in all four areas, ensuring your jewelry is guaranteed to have a brilliance and beauty that will last a lifetime.

1. Carat – The weight of the diamond

The carat (abbreviated ct ) indicates the weight of a diamond.

• 1.00 ct is equal to 0.2 grams .
• Larger diamonds are rarer and therefore more valuable.

At Vondel Diamonds, you'll find diamonds in various sizes, always selected for the optimal balance between weight, appearance, and comfort. A larger diamond is impressive, but the real magic happens when it's combined with the right color, clarity, and cut.

2. Color – The color of the diamond

The most beautiful diamonds are completely colorless and allow light to pass through optimally.

• The color is graded on a scale from D (colorless) to Z (visibly yellow/brown) .
• The closer to D, the rarer and more valuable the diamond.

We select only diamonds in the highest color grades: D–F . This gives our stones a bright, icy sparkle that makes each piece timeless.

3. Clarity – The purity of the diamond

Every diamond contains microscopic inclusions or imperfections – like a fingerprint, unique to each stone.

• Clarity is graded from Flawless (no inclusions visible under a 10x loupe) to Included (visible imperfections) .

At Vondel Diamonds, we work exclusively with diamonds in the VVS (Very Very Slightly Included) and VS (Very Slightly Included) categories. These stones are so pure that inclusions are barely visible even under magnification—and not at all to the naked eye.

4. Cut – The cut and brilliance

The cut quality determines how light is reflected by the diamond and is therefore crucial for its brilliance.

• A perfect cut gives the diamond its sparkle, fire and clarity.
• Poorly cut diamonds lose light and appear dull, even with high color or clarity.
