Het IGI-certificaat (GI grading report) is het onafhankelijke “paspoort” van een diamant. Het beschrijft de kenmerken van de steen en legt de kwaliteit vast, zodat je weet wat je koopt én wat je kunt vergelijken.

Wat is IGI?

IGI staat voor International Gemological Institute. Het instituut geeft rapporten uit voor diamanten en edelstenen en biedt consumenten de mogelijkheid om rapporten online te verifiëren.

IGI voor lab grown diamanten

Bij lab grown diamanten biedt IGI specifieke rapporten onder anderen “Lab Grown Diamond Report” en “Lab Grown Diamond Jewelry Report”. Het rapport beschrijft het sieraad en of diamant(en) en beoordeelt, voor zover de zetting het toelaat, de kenmerken van de (center) stone(s), inclusief de 4 C’s. 

Waarom kopenI bij Vondel Diamonds een voordeel is

Wanneer je een ring kiest voor een aanzoek of mijlpaal, wil je dat het verhaal klopt, en dat je het kunt uitleggen, later ook.

Daarom is IGI voor veel klanten belangrijk:

  • Transparantie: specificaties zwart-op-wit (4 C’s en identificatie). 
  • Controleerbaar: report-ID is online te verifiëren bij IGI. 
  • Vergelijkbaar: je kunt twee diamanten eerlijk naast elkaar leggen, zonder giswerk.

Veelgestelde vragen

Een IGI-certificaat (IGI grading report) is een onafhankelijk rapport met de kenmerken van je diamant: onder anderen carat, cut, color, clarity en een uniek reportnummer. Het is het “paspoort” waarmee je kunt vergelijken en verifiëren.

Het IGI report helpt bij identificatie en kwaliteitsbeoordeling en geeft daarmee sterke zekerheid. IGI positioneert certificering en verificatie als consumenten-tool voor vertrouwen.

Bij een center stone (de hoofdsteen) hoort doorgaans een bijbehorend rapport. Dit certificaat komt bij een karaat grootte van 1 of hoger. Bij sieraden zonder diamanten, zit er geen certificaat bij, en bij sieraden met een karaat grootte kleiner dan 1, krijg je een sieraden certificaat.

De 4 C’s vormen de kern van IGI diamond reports; bij (sommige) jewelry reports kan de mate van grading afhangen van de zetting (“as mounting permits”).

Als je snel wilt weten of je “goed” zit, kijk dan naar:

  • Shape + measurements (past dit bij wat je ziet?)
  • Carat (komt de grootte overeen?)
  • Color & clarity (je gewenste bandbreedte)
  • Cut (bij rond: vaak het grootste effect op sparkle)

Dat hangt af van wat je mooi vindt en hoe de ring gedragen wordt. In de praktijk:

  • Cut bepaalt meestal het meeste van de schittering.
  • Color bepaalt hoe wi en of helder de steen oogt.
  • Clarity bepaalt hoe “rustig” de steen oogt (met name bij grotere stenen).

Sommige rapporten gaan puur over de diamant (los), andere over het sieraad waarin de diamant gezet is. Bij jewelry reports kan de beoordeling soms afhankelijk zijn van wat zichtbaar is.
