Those who choose a diamond for an engagement, anniversary or a personal moment, not only want to know how it sparkles, but also where it comes from and how its quality is determined.
At Vondel Diamonds, we work exclusively with lab-grown diamonds created using the CVD method.
Not because it sounds technical, but because for us, it's about control, purity, and the ability to select only those stones that meet our standard: VVS–VS clarity, D–F color, and a Triple Excellent selection.
What is the CVD method?
The CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition) method is a technique for growing diamonds in a laboratory, where carbon atoms from a gas mixture are deposited layer by layer onto a diamond seed.
GIA (Gemological Institute of America) describes this process as growth from a chamber containing carbonaceous gas, with the environment typically heated to around 900–1200°C.
Simply put: a CVD diamond is not formed deep within the earth, but grows layer by layer in a laboratory environment where the process is precisely controlled. The end result is not a look-alike or imitation, but a real diamond.
Is a CVD diamond a real diamond?
Yes. A lab-grown diamond has the same crystal structure as a natural diamond and therefore the same chemical, optical, and physical properties. With the naked eye, they are often indistinguishable.
For us, luxury doesn't start with size, but with quality you see and feel every day. The reason we work with CVD is that this method aligns with our selection process: conscious, precise, and without compromising on appearance.

Frequently asked questions about the CVD method
Yes. A CVD diamond is a real diamond with the same crystal structure and the same chemical, optical, and physical properties as a natural diamond.
In practice, usually not. Traditional gemological observation and standard instruments cannot reliably distinguish natural from laboratory-grown diamonds; specialized analysis is required for that.
D–F on the IGI colour scale stands for colorless. These are the highest colour grades within the usual scale for colorless diamonds.
IGI uses clarity grades such as VVS1–2 and VS1–2, based on assessment under 10x magnification. These are high-quality clarity levels that indicate minimal internal characteristics.
Because a certificate objectively records what you are buying: the 4 Cs, the finish, and, if stated, also the growth method and any treatments. A verifiable report provides peace of mind for a purchase that is both emotionally and financially significant. At Vondel Diamonds, all our diamond jewelry is certified by IGI.
